DPP blunders in Jamali case?

The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) may have made yet another blunder in the corruption case against property magnate, Seyed Jamali and deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs, Victor Rantshabeng.

The DPP's last throw of the dice in its effort to prosecute the duo was thrown in disarray yesterday after it came to light that its notice of appeal was registered at the wrong registry. The DPP approached the Court of Appeal (CoA) seeking leave to appeal out of time.

It was revealed yesterday before CoA judge Isaac Lesetedi that instead of filing its notice with the Registrar of the High Court, the DPP went straight to the Registrar of the CoA, which is in contravention of Rule 11 of the CoA. However, DPP's representative Merapelo Mokgosi insisted that they filed their notice with the right court arguing that the matter was to be heard before the CoA, as such there was nothing wrong filing with the Registrar of the CoA.
