Unemployed and uneducated, a man is struggling to raise two blind children alone after their mother deserted them

TOBANE: A heartbroken father has had to single-handedly raise two blind children after their malevolent mom dumped them on him and disappeared.Heartbroken, 40-year old Ontse Kenabetsho, says he is still trying to understand how Keamogetse Jane could perpetrate such a monstrous act.The older child, *One, is 11-years-old. Kenabetsho says Jane started to play truant by sleeping nights away as soon as the two parents realised that their infant was only partially-sighted, leaving him to care for the baby alone.Over time, however, the couple rebounded and became a family again.  "Thus we had another child, a son, in 2003,"

"Regrettably, we soon realised that the boy had his elder sister's problem. However, instead of rallying together for the sake of our new son and his sister, Jane deserted us." That was nine years ago.Kenabetsho says he resolved to raise the two blind children.  But it was a struggle right from the onset because the single father is illiterate and unemployed. He is in a double bind: he cannot provide for his children adequately because he is unemployed but he cannot leave the children to go looking for a job."Raising two children [blind] alone is more than a full-time job," says Kenabetsho.
