Doctors ready to be sacked

FRANCISTOWN: Striking doctors and nurses at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital (NRH) have said that they will not be intimidated by the government's dismissal threats.

They said sacking them would be a blessing in disguise since they have scarce skills and they will get better jobs.

"Our professions are in high demand internationally. Our neighbours, South Africa and Namibia need doctors and nurses at better pay. If we get red cards we will simply seek employment abroad," the doctors and nurses said through their association. They said they are only working in the country because they are patriotic, otherwise they would be holding high paying jobs abroad. They said many of them who studied abroad were offered jobs in the countries they studied in but they chose to come back.
