DK explains absence at Merafhe launch

Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) chairman, Daniel 'DK' Kwelagobe has said he was not aware that he was supposed to be one of the speakers at last Saturday's launch of Vice President Mompati Merafhe as parliamentary candidate for Mahalapye East.

Kwelagobe gave the launch a wide berth and the master of ceremonies had to apologise to the crowd about his absence. Health Minister and aspiring BDP secretary general, Lesego Motsumi was roped in to speak in place of Kwelagobe.

The BDP chairman leads a faction in the party opposed to an alliance spearheaded by Merafhe. Kwelagobe told Mmegi this week that he missed the launch because he was not aware that he had been featured in the programme. He added that he had previously indicated that he would not make it to the Merafhe faction.
