DK dumps Barata-Phathi?

FRANCISTOWN: The Barata-Phathi faction of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) was gripped by confusion this week when it emerged that one of its godfathers has made peace with the rival Nkate-Merafhe camp or A-Team.

A BDP insider confided to Mmegi yesterday that something could be wrong after Barata-Phathi leader and BDP chairman, Daniel 'DK' Kwelagobe has cut a peace deal with President Ian Khama without informing his allies in the faction. The confusing state of affairs seems to have affected the faction that recently suffered a blow when the High Court ruled that their suspended member Gomolemo Motswaledi and BDP secretary general cannot challenge his suspension by Khama. It is understood that poor communication between Kwelagobe and other factional strategists could have jeopardised a crucial decision as to whether Motswaledi should appeal the High Court decision. The decision has been pending since last Friday. Since news broke that Khama had cut a peace deal with Kwelagobe, other Barata-Phathi leaders have been inundated with calls from  supporters who are wondering what is going on.

It is apparent that many Barata-Phathi members are demanding to know the benefits of the peace deal that Kwelagobe has entered into.
