A 35-year-old man of Ditharapana ward in Serowe has been arrested in connection with a murder incident after allegedly stabbing a fellow 35-year-old following a dispute over beer drinking at a local shebeen.

According to the police, it was revealed that the deceased had initially stabbed the suspect with a sharp object. In the ensuing struggle, the suspect managed to wrestle the weapon from the deceased and fatally stabbed him. The incident took place on Saturday at around 11:30 pm in Ditharapana ward.

"The suspect who has sustained a stabbed wound was treated and released the same night, while the Phukela ward native was rushed to Sekgomo Memorial Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival by doctors," stated Superintendent Poloko Oteng, the Serowe police station commander. While the motive behind the altercation is yet to be fully understood, Oteng said there was a dispute leading to a physical confrontation. The suspect is expected to face a murder charge, with an appearance scheduled for today (Monday) at Serowe Magistrate’s Court.
