DIS speaks out on torture

The Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) has for the first time since its inception spoken out on the allegations of torture against its officers.

In a statement released by the organ, through the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) also based at the Office of the President, the spy agency attempts to dispel what it calls "unsubstantiated allegations and insinuations about" its work.

"In this respect, we take this opportunity to reaffirm our view that the allegation reported in one newspaper that our personnel had engaged in abusive interrogation is a fabrication," claims the statement. The DIS further distances itself from the alleged abduction of the UB SRC President, Kagiso Thutlwe, recently.
