DIS naming forces magistrate back to his chambers

FRANCISTOWN: A magistrate was forced to call for consultations in his chambers yesterday after an attorney threatened to use communication from the Directorate of Intelligence Services (DIS) to defend his client.

Principal Magistrate, Sijabuliso Siziba, acknowledged the correspondence from DIS and adjourned proceedings to his chambers to consult with defence attorney, Isaac Seleka to decide whether it had a bearing on the case. Before the adjournment, Siziba said the correspondence did not concern the case but the court’s administrative division. He added that if the defence attorney felt that the correspondence may impact on the proceedings before him, he will discuss the matter with Seleka in his chambers.

Earlier, the attorney had stunned the court when he revealed that there was communication from the DIS, which he felt, might impact on the proceedings.
