DIS agents trap police impostor

A man alleged to be posing as a police officer has been arrested in Palapye for trying to con a councillor who is under investigation for defilement.

The suspected fraudster told Lerala councillor Kabo Ketshogile that he was a policeman and he could make the case docket disappear if he was bribed P1,000. The man (name withheld) said he is a sub-inspector of police. He is said to have shown insider knowledge of the case. Ketshogile was arrested in Palapye on suspicion that he defiled a girl in Lerala. The councillor has denied the charge and is said to have declined the offer to make the docket disappear. He alerted the Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) agents who collaborated with the police and mounted a trap to ensnare the 'sub-inspector'.

The DIS and police advised Ketshogile to give the impression that he has changed his mind and he was buying into the idea of purchasing the docket. They met at a local lodge in Palapye where the security agents had laid out an elaborate trap. After Ketshogile gave the man the money, the law enforcers came out of hiding and asked him what he had in his pockets. Sources say the man confessed and said he was not a police officer, but was roped in by Ketshogile's political opponent in the plot.
