A diplomatic row is looming between Botswana and the United Kingdom over the selective imposition of visa requirements on some British nationals. The British concerns come in the wake of the Botswana government's latest decision to slap an American and a Briton with visa requirements.

The decision was announced on May 4 through the Botswana Government Gazette by the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Charles Tibone. The affected are American Rudolf Stavenhagen and Briton Domini Michael Atcher Taylor.

"In accordance with Regulation 5 (1) of the immigration (visa) regulations, the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs hereby declares that the persons listed in the first column of the schedule hereto, who are of the countries listed in the second column in relation to their respective names, are to obtain a visa to enter into Botswana," reads the order from Tibone. Under normal circumstances, citizens of the US and Britain do not need visas to enter Botswana.
