Dikgosi push for dikgotla to issue phane harvesting licence

Ntlo ya Dikgosi has passed a motion requesting government to consider decentralising the issuance of mophane worm harvesting licenses to dikgotla for close monitoring.

Presenting the motion yesterday, Kgosi Kgomotso Boiditswe from the Serowe region said he is concerned with the number of phane-harvesters from as far as South Africa who move into areas in which phane is abundant without first informing the traditional leaders of such places.

He said, often, dikgosi only learn about this when a missing person report involving a member of such expeditions is filed.Kgosi Boiditswe also decried the litter left behind by members of these expeditions, saying traditional leaders often do not know who they should hold responsible for cleaning up.
