Dibete police are investigating a case in which a 31-year-old woman of Mosanta ward at Mookane village was roused from sleep in an attack and raped by an intruder early Friday morning.

The suspect, a 22-year-old man, has since been arrested and is likely to appear before the Mahalapye Magistrate's Court today to face a single count of rape. Dibete Police Station commander, Superintendent Meshack Ranku said the victim was fast asleep in the early hours of the morning when the suspect entered the house through an unlocked door, raped her and then fled the crime scene.

"After receiving the report, police followed up on the matter and arrested the suspect who is currently in custody helping the police with investigations. Cases in which women are attacked and raped while in their sleep remain a concern. I am pleading with men who are always perpetrators to respect themselves and stop viewing women as sex objects that they can attack as they please and sexually abuse," Ranku said.
