SOWA: Managing Director of South African-based Afrimond Diamond Institute, Todd Majaye has said the Botswana government effected the privatisation programme after its efforts to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) failed. He asserted that despite government efforts, Botswana has lost out to other SADC countries as the main recipient of FDI in the region.

"The question is not whether privatisation should or should not be but the approach is to assess the merits and demerits of privatisation and labour on the strategies it should take within the framework of the globalisation agenda and Botswana's socio-economic development goals."
