Deteriorating University of Botswana standards

I also want to join the fray regarding the banning of political parties at UB. It has to be appreciated that UB is 100% owned by the state and 100% funded by the state.

Currently the UB constituency is in the hands of the opposition parties, BNF councilor and BCP parliamentarian. It's amazing that during the time the UB polling station was in the hands of the ruling party, there was never a banning of political parties within the UB residence. Now the UB administration has banned both the resident councilor and the resident MP from addressing the electorate.

This is pathetic as it denies UB residents to participation in the democratic process as their representatives cannot account to the electorate. I suspect that UB management will also ban the polling stations at UB. It is amazing that at a time when the government wants youth to vote and participate in the democratic process, the University of Botswna management thinks otherwise. To them, the youth should not participate in the democratic process. It is amazing that this is also extended to lecturers who stay in the university premises, such as Wardens who look after students. The decision of UB management is unconstitutional and amounts to nothing else but erosion of Batswana's civil liberties. Banning of political parties applies even to the BDP, which is the ruling party. This is surprising as the Chancelor of the UB is Dr Festus Mogae, who is also BDP president. I wonder what he would do upon realizing that his council has banned his party from campaigning in his University. Unless there is conspiracy of eliminating opposition parties in UB, the decision by UB management is not understood by members of the public and let alone the UB residents.
