Detained BLLAHWU official out on bail

Makhado appeared briefly before Chief Magistrate Gaedupe Makgato who granted him bail on his own recognisance and is due to appear on June 23. He was represented by Busang Manewe of Bogopa and Manewe Attorneys while prosecutor Inspector Lapologang Moatshe from Botswana Police Service, appeared for the state. Makhado has been granted bail on condition that he desists from engaging in a similar offence.
While the state insisted in placing a condition for the accused to stop taking part in the riots, Manewe argued that there is no evidence brought before court to prove that their client did participate in a riot. "The condition cannot stand in the absence of evidence. The state must give evidence to define the offence of the accused," he argued.Makhado's first appearance in court was marked by tight security. He was whisked in and out of court through the back door. The law enforcement officers were on the lookout and the police vehicles could be spotted on high alert behind the court premises.
