Defilement cases worry police

Since the beginning of theyear a total of 132 cases of defilement have been reported throughout the country causing concern at the Botswana Police Services, according to information from the public relations office.

During the week under review, a total of eight cases of defilement were recorded by the police. Four of the cases came from the South Central Division while the Northern Division recorded three.

Seven of the victims are aged between 13 and 16 years, mostly students at junior secondary schools, while the other victim was nine years old. In one of the incidents, a 16 year old girl, a student was defiled by a 30 year old teacher at the same school. In another case, a nine year old mentally retarded girl was defiled by a 28 year old man in Maun. Seven suspects have been arrested.
