Defaulting on TB treatment is dangerous

FRANCISTOWN: There are concerns over Tuberculosis (TB) patients who do not take their prescriptions accordingly as they might be a danger to society.

Last week at a Health Pitso held at the Monarch Customary Court in Francistown, Onkamile Sebetela, the district TB coordinator said these patients usually break after two months while they are supposed to be on treatment for six to eight months.  By doing so they do not only endanger themselves but every one around them, he pointed out.

Sebetela revealed that 13 percent of people in Botswana are dying of TB, while 40 percent are living with both HIV/AIDS and TB.  He also pointed out that 536 out of 1,000 people are being detected with the virus yearly.
