Defaulter warned to pay P64, 000 or else

FRANCISTOWN: Chief Magistrate Gabanagae Mokwadi yesterday warned a 45-year-old man that he might celebrate Botswana's next Independence anniversary "somewhere" if he does not show responsibility and settle maintenance arrears."If you are not serious, you are just going to prison as you are already knocking at the doors there," warned Mokwadi.

Jerry Kgobogi, a debt collector in Palapye, was charged with 57 offences of failing to carry out the magistrate's court orders.Kgobogi's arrears stand at P64, 000 as he has been failing to pay since 2003.

The court heard that the accused was to pay P1, 000 in January 2003, which he failed to do.Between September and December the same year he failed to pay P1, 500 he was ordered to pay.
