Debswana HIV/AIDS policy wins praises

Despite its sarcastic report and heavy criticism of De Beers and Debswana operations in Botswana, Bench Marks Foundation, acknowledges that the mining giants are the best when it comes to HIV/AIDS programmes and care for their employees.

The South African NGO says that Debswana became the first company in the world to provide its workers with free ARVs in 1998.

It says that the HIV policy of De Beers family of companies, that includes Debswana, is committed to addressing HIV/AIDS in a positive, supportive and non-discriminatory manner that enhances engagement and wellness.
