DCEC wants 'freedom of information' law

The head of the Directorate of Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC), Tymon Katlholo, says the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) should be put in place if Botswana wants to succeed in fighting corruption.

He says that it is abnormal to introduce legislation on whistle blowing whilst leaving behind FOIA when the two are supposed to complement each other.  "Something of that kind is in the pipeline," he assured journalists.


Katlholo was speaking at an informal workshop organised for media practitioners in Gaborone yesterday. Katlholo said he would also like to see implementation of the motion on declaration of assets by members of parliament and other public officers.
