DCEC stalls on P80m probe?

Doubts linger over the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime's (DCEC) progress in the investigations into allegations of corruption at the Department of Water Affairs relating to the P80 million Maitengwe Water supply project.

Mid-last year, the DCEC confirmed to Mmegi that they were in the preliminary stages of the probe. However, sources fear that the momentum in the case has been lost. The graft-busting organ has been investigating principal water engineer, Ephraim Kelaeng, M3 Consulting, an engineering consulting firm, and Unik, a construction company over the controversial award of the tender for the construction of the project to the latter.
DCEC assistant public relations officer, Lentswe Motshoganetsi, confirmed that, indeed, the directorate is engaged in investigations. However, he would not discuss further details on the progress made so far.

But inside sources insist that the case could have been wrapped up by now given that the evidence was quite substantial. They therefore expressed doubts regarding the state organ's dedication to getting to the heart of the matter, fearing that the case may never see the light of day.
