SELEBI-PHIKWE: The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) has entered into a partnership with the Selebi-Phikwe Economic Diversification Unit (SPEDU) to guide against corrupt activities that could sabotage efforts to bring development to the town.

During a press conference Principal Anti Corruption Officer, Kenny Gaolatlhwe expressed fear that some people may be tempted to push for projects that would not benefit the SPEDU mandate and in turn bar locals in the region from benefiting from the initiative. Gaolatlhwe indicated that government has channeled huge monies to mega projects yet no anticipated results have been forthcoming mainly due to corruption.

"SPEDU, as a critical partner, should be in a position to alert DCEC when they encounter such challenges so that they are speedily attended to." Gaolatlhwe further advised that corruption and economic crime does not only distort economic decision -making but also deters investments, undermines competitiveness and ultimately weakens economic growth.
