The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) chief Tymon Katholo, has confirmed that they are investigating a mysterious award of a tender to PC Net, a company previously associated with Palapye MP and former cabinet minister Boyce Sebetela.

"I have directed further investigation into the award of that tender," Katlholo said. The fresh investigation comes after reports suggesting that the DCEC and Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) were ready to slap the company with a corruption charge. The company is alleged to have been involved in conflict of interest dealings contrary to Section 31(1) of the DCEC Act. The DCEC has homed in on PC Net after revelations that the company mysteriously emerged the winner of a tender for the supply of technological equipment at Botswana Technology Centre (BOTEC. It is said PC Net did not appear as a potential supplier of technological equipment as suggested in 2003 by Sebetela, the then minister under whose docket BOTEC fell. The revelations were made at the Lisindi Commission of Inquiry, which probed allegations of corruption and maladministration at BOTEC. The government has been criticised for dragging its feet in implementing the recommendations of the commission. A government White Paper from the commission agreed with the commissioners that BOTEC flouted the procurement procedures in the award of tender number 332.632/02/02 to PC-Net. The White Paper said that BOTEC officers acted in gross negligence and corruptly.
