Danger looms at UB building

Though no repairs have been carried out, it is business as usual at the University of Botswana's (UB) Faculty of Business, eight months after its premises were nearly destroyed by a storm. The situation has been described as unsafe for everyone in the building as the ceiling is falling down and the lift is, most of the time, out of order.

The students and the lecturers in the building are now complaining that their lives are in danger. The response they have got from the authorities is that maintenance would be carried out soon.
The multi-million pula building is said to be deteriorating as it was nearly  destroyed by the rains late last year. However, UB spokesman Samuel Moribame said they are still consulting with their insurance company about the matter. "An independent structural audit is needed and it would be carried out. Until that time, and in line with regular procedure in these types of instances, the rubble may not be removed," he said.
He did not reveal when they expect the building to be repaired.
