A large number of dancers from different backgrounds thronged the Maitisong dance auditions held at Maru-A-Pula (MAP) School on Saturday.

Those who auditioned displayed had different styles including break dancing, contemporary and Latin dance.  The dance programme for Maitisong Festival will run from April 22 to 26, 2015 and it will include workshops.

Dance groups and individuals took part in the auditions.

New dancers and as well as the familiar faces of the more seasoned dancers made up the in the lineup of dancers who went to try their luck at the auditions.

Charles ‘Gecko’ Mangiroza from TNT was one of the familiar faces in the lineup.

Dancers had two minutes to impress using a song of their own choice.

Dance consultant, Tumisang Baatshwana, who was one of the top officials at the auditions, was greatly impressed by the diversity.

“Dance groups and individuals specialising in different genres delivered exceptional routines proving that indeed, there is a lot of local talent that has not been tapped into,” she said.

Baatshwana said the results for those who qualified to participate at the Festival will be announced during the course of the week.  They will also have an opportunity to participate on a newly introduced platform called The Space, which aims to develop upcoming dancers.

Baatshwana said The Space provides an opportunity for upcoming dancers to showcase their work in a professional environment.

“Each act will be given five minutes to present to the audience and all are encouraged to push performance boundaries as far as possible,” she said. The performances will be held on an outdoor stage at MAP.  Mophato Dance Theatre will headline with Inyaya and Sky Blue Dance Hub will present their latest dance productions.
