Crescendo of disquiet in opposition ranks

In a week characterised by an increasing disquiet among opposition members, the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) chairman and negotiation team leader, Nehemiah Modubule has come out with guns blazing against what he calls "Umbrella detractors".

At a press conference held at the party headquarters in Gaborone yesterday, Modubule said his party is a victim of sustained attacks from its detractors on the political scene and the media. BMD has been at the centre of criticism from supporters of other opposition parties. The party has agreed, together with the Botswana National Front (BNF), Botswana Congress Party (BCP) and the Botswana Peoples Party (BPP) to use the Umbrella model to contest the 2014 general elections. Yesterday, Modubule dismissed reports that the BMD is making unreasonable demands in the negotiations for the elections.
