Court to make ruling in infanticide case

FRANCISTOWN: Justice Modiri Letsididi will rule today if a young mother who allegedly buried her two-week old child has a murder case to answer.

This is after the mother's lawyer, Chipo Gaobatlwe of Gaobatlwe Attorneys, moved an application of no case to answer in a matter in which Mercy Tlhomola (24) is accused of the murder of Gaolefufa Tlhomola.

Tlhomola is alleged to have murdered her two-week old child on May 6, 2006 in Boseja Ward in Maun and buried her without informing anyone. After the state rested its case, Gaobatlwe made an application of no case to answer, saying the court could not convict the accused of murder or infanticide on the basis of the evidence before it.
