Court orders forensic evidence in Russian's fraud case

The state has been given a month to engage a forensic expert to examine the machines that are involved in a case in which a Russian is charged with fraud. Gaborone magistrate Nokuthula Moyo postponed the case yesterday to March 19, after the state submitted that they would call a South African forensic expert to examine the machines that Sergui Pastouchenko manipulated to get money. State prosecutor Kebabonye Mosime told the court the arrangements are already underway to make the witness available when trial begins.

The particulars of the offences are that on or about December 22 last year, at or near Grand Palm Hotel, Pastouchenko manipulated the software of the electronic gambling machine using his loyalty personal card numbers in order for the machine to double his cash. He is alleged to have taken about P280, 000 being the property of Grand Palm Hotel. The police are said to have recovered P96, 200.

On another matter, Pastouchenko was recently convicted by the same court of defilement of a nine-year-old girl. The 39-year-old Pastouchenko was said to have on several occasions between 2005 and January 2008 had carnal knowledge of the girl while also dating her mother.
