Court order went unheeded in Ramotswa - unionists

Even though the Industrial Court had ordered striking workers in some government departments to resume work immediately, union leaders in Ramotswa said the order went unheeded in the area.

The court had ordered that employees of government departments - which are considered to be providing "essential services" - must return to work.  But this had not deterred Ramotswa workers who had also joined the nationwide strike that ends today (April 29). 

Chairman of the Botswana Federation of Public Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU) for the South East branch, Segale Kgari said the strike was effective in Ramotswa and surrounding areas and, as he put it, managed to paralyse some government departments like the council.
