Court gives man additional 10 years

Keikantseng Mokgethisi will forever regret the day he resolved to appeal his five-year sentence after the Court of Appeal slapped him with an additional 10 years in jail for the murder of his girlfriend in Mahalapye in March 2009.

Mokgethisi who had served three years of his sentence, got the shock of his life yesterday when Justices Ian Kirby, Elijah Legwaila, and Stephen Gaongalelwe increased his sentence. The High Court accepted his self-defence argument.

"The appellant is found guilty of murder with extenuating circumstance, and is sentenced to 15 years, from which shall be deducted the period spent in custody while awaiting trial," they pronounced.
