Court defers ruling on murder confession

LOBATSE: The expected ruling on a confession in a murder case hit a snag yesterday because the accused was sick. Justice Michael Leburu of the High Court could not rule whether Daniel Sime made the confession under duress or not because he (Sime) could not attend the afternoon proceedings due to the sickness . The matter has been postponed to tomorrow.

Sime's attorney Dumezweni Mthimkulu made a counterclaim and urged the High Court to order that an admission of guilt  purported to have been done by his client was involuntary.

He mentioned that the judicial officer, who recorded the confession statement, did not ensure that security personnel escorting the indicted were not in the neighbourhood of the confession room.
