Court decides Mhlauli's fate today

The Gaborone Village Magistrate will make a ruling today on whether former Permanent Secretary, Elvidge Mhlauli has a case to answer or not in the on-going corruption case. This comes after the prosecution and the defence made submissions and counter submissions on an application of 'no case to answer'.

For the entire day yesterday lawyers were locked in legal combat which at times degenerated into semantic gymnastics.

Advocate Francois Van Zyl drew first blood when he submitted his application stating that the court should acquit his client because the prosecution failed to produce any evidence to link his client to the offences as stipulated on the charge sheet.
