Minister of Child Welfare and Basic Education, Nono Mokoka-Kgafela yesterday declared that the 2025 examinations will proceed as planned after the urgent application to interdict the seating of examinations was dismissed by the Maun High Court.
There was fear or doubt that the 2025 examinations will not continue as planned after one teacher approached the courts to intervene. This was confirmed by the minister yesterday during a media briefing.
“The 2025 examinations were planned to run without any interruptions until one teacher of the French syllabus at Morama Junior Secondary School made an urgent application to the court of law to interdict the 2025 examination process,” the minister said.
As the human rights based government, the minister said that the ministry did not stand in the way of the said teacher to raise her grievances so that she could be be satisfied however her case was struck off.
“The case was heard at the Maun High Court and was dismissed and the 2025 examinations will continue as scheduled,” she said.
Though the ministry won the case against the said teacher, Kgafela- Mokoka said they will however be expected to foot the bill of the legal battle between the two stakeholders.
“The case was dismissed with Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) instructed to bear the plaintiff and the council’s legal costs,” she said.
The ministry remained coy with details about how much are the legal costs.
With the minister announcing that the examinations will continue as planned, she mentioned that some of the examinations are already on going.
“The JCE and BGCSE examinations started on the 8th of September and are expected to be concluded on the 26th September 2025,” she said.
The writing of the examinations will on the other end commence on October 6 till October 13 for PSLE examinations while for JCE they will run from August until October 31st. For BGCSE they will run from October 3 till November 28.
As the schedule is in place, the minister envisioned that the PSLE results will be released on the third week of December 2025, JCE on the second week of February 2026 while BGCSE will be on the last week of March 2026.
The minister urged the 2025 candidates to prepare greatly for the upcoming examinations and improve the pass rate from last year.
“I therefore implore all students to prepare for the examinations by studying hard. Dedicate time and focus on your studies by studying. The examination test your knowledge on what you've been learning,” she urged the candidates.
