Court affirms sacking of top cop who ordered dud spy kit

A former senior police officer who purchased spy equipment that embarrassed the government has lost his appeal against his sacking from Botswana Police Service (BPS).

Before he was sacked, Edward Moholo was demoted from the position of Assistant Commissioner to Senior Superintendent.
Moholo was fired after BPS paid out P10 million in an out-of-court settlement with the company at the centre of the controversy, Dukef Holdings, which supplied the spy equipment that failed to work.

"Having taken into account the seriousness of this matter and the legal obligation placed on me, I regret to inform you that I have decided to dismiss you from the Police Service in terms of Section 15(1) (c) of the Police Act Cap 21:01 effective 11th March 2011," reads part of the letter from Botswana Police Commissioner Thebeyame Tsimako to Moholo.
