Councillors quiz Moruakgomo on post of BALA officer

Botswana Association of Local Authorities (BALA) official, Mpho Moruakgomo says councillors should be aware of the responsibilities that come with councils' autonomy.

Moruakgomo told the Southern District full council meeting on Wednesday that while BALA advocated for the full autonomy of both district and town councils, it needed to sensitise councillors that autonomy would mean that they become more responsible and exercise proper care when passing motions.

The outspoken politician, who is also Kgatleng District council chairman said: "It is disturbing that at this time we are still not autonomous. But we should understand that councils need resources. We also need to show more responsibility towards our duties as councils and councillors".
