Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) has said that councillors applying for a house will have to meet the eligibility criteria that includes affordability.

The corporation was responding to the Gaborone City Council (GCC) motion that requested BHC to provide housing to councillors. In his response BHC CEO said the corporation is not averse to providing housing to councillors on provision that allocation would be on rental basis with an option to purchase the house outrightly and that the councillor or his family is currently renting a BHC house and has not bought a house from BHC before.

"Councillors or the council itself apply for such housing from BHC as and when the corporation invites applications from the general public when houses are available for allocation," stated the unsigned correspondence read by the deputy town clerk.
