Councillors defend floor crossing

Stopping elected politicians from crossing the floor is both unconstitutional and undemocratic, Southern District councillors have told Ministry of Local Government permanent secretary, Thato Raphaka.

Raphaka was in Kanye yesterday morning to present the proposed Local Government Bill at the Southern District Council (SDC) special full council meeting.

The majority of councillor criticised government for adding such clauses in the bill and suspected that the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) was trying to settle old political scores through the bill.
