Councillors at loggerheads with Chinese contractor

Tlokweng councillors have reportedly stopped a Chinese company from completing work on internal roads in the peri-urban village due to what they term "poor workmanship" on work done so far.

The councillors stopped CGC Botswana, a Chinese company contracted to construct internal roads in the village, from putting markings on some of the roads it has built. Speaking to Mmegi recently, Same Makgoa-Bathobakae, Tlokweng South councillor, said the village councillors are unhappy with the quality of the tarring on the roads, especially one from MP Robert Masitara's compound to the Tlokweng Main Clinic, as well as the one that passes by Hair Port towards Boiteko Chibuku Distributors.

Although the roads are still new, the recently laid tar is already disintegrating. The contractor has resorted to putting sand on the roads as a mitigating measure. Bathobakae said the village councillors made their grievances known at a full sub-council meeting in Tlokweng late last year. Further, the Tlokweng South councillor said they have made the company aware of their unhappiness at the quality of the roads, but the company has not taken any action.
