Councillor Tema dies

FRANCISTOWN:The Long-serving Councillor for Nshakazhogwe in the Tonota North constituency, Phuluma Gawa Tema, succumbed to a long battle with cancer at the age of 69 last Saturday. Tema was a Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) councillor for 20 years.

His colleague, Lesego Raditanka, who is the Chairman of the Central District Council (CDC), says the late Tema was a humble man who was well versed in issues of finance. "I don't know if he had the relevant qualifications in finance, but he was knowledgeable in that field," says Raditanka, who has been a councillor since 1979. Hence he served as Chairman of the Finance Committee of the CDC for a long time and as Vice Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Tutume Sub-district. From 1999, Tema was the Chairman of Leupane Ranch until it was handed over to the tribe recently. He is survived by his wife Tshupegetso, six children and five grandchildren. He will be buried tomorrow at Nshakazhogwe.
