Councillor Calls For A Barrier-free Society

People living with disabilities have called for a law entrenching ergonomics, the proscription of demeaning language in reference to them, portfolio responsibility under the Office of the President and the creation of a caring and barrier-free society that regards them with respect.

Speaking at the end of a sponsored walk to raise funds for the Botswana Society for People Living with Disabilities in Kanye on Saturday, the deputy chairperson of the local branch of the organisation said time was ripe for everyone to act and put an end to the marginalisation of people with disabilities.

"To create a barrier-free society we need protection of the rights and dignity of people with disabilities," Mosimane said. "We need to be included in decision making, law formulating and programme implementation."
