Council projects get new lease of life

The Ministry of Local Government yesterday said they have decided to continue with some districts and town council development projects that were suspended in November and December last year in response to the global recession.

Following evidence of an international recession late last year, the ministry sent out directives to all districts and town councils to suspend tenders for new projects as a cost saving measure.

Principal planning officer in the Ministry of Local Government, Olebogeng Moipisi, yesterday said that they have had a change of heart and that on January 8 they gave all the councils the green light to continue with the programs that were deferred.  This means that they can now continue to award tenders for projects.
