Council neglects molested girls

The parents of two sexually molested children have accused the social workers at the Kweneng District Council (KDC) of dismissing and neglecting their case.

The parents say that two secondary schoolboys sexually molested their 12-year-old daughter and 15-year-old niece (who lives with them): first during the December 2010 school holiday; and second, during the July 2011 school holidays at Botlhapatlou.

The parents say that they have reported the children's cases with a social worker (name known to Mmegi) at the KDC in January, but since then no action has been taken. "The social worker assured us that she would talk to a police officer, and would come here to talk to the children, but up until now she hasn't done so," the mother told Mmegi in an interview.
