Council explains why it repossessed BDP plot

The ruling party forfeited the plot because it had neglected it and failed to pay rates since it got the allocation in 1984, the Selebi-Phikwe council management has said in response to a question by councillor Lekang Mukokomani. The council explained that the BDP plot situated in Newstands next to Saint John's Apostolic Church was repossessed after the party failed to respond to a notice put in the Daily News in September 2002. The revelation was made at a full council meeting.
The meeting heard that the plot, which currently has a dilapidated structure, has not been allocated to date because the role of allocating civic and community plots has reverted to the Department of Lands. The structure on the plot is listed under those to be demolished.
