Council Completes Projects

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The Selebi-Phikwe Town Council (SPTC) has finished most of its projects ahead of schedule, the mayor Benjamin Bagayi has said.

The projects include the upgrading of Botshabelo North infrastructure, poverty alleviation, and the provision of water and construction of a sewer line in the light industrial area. Roads, drainages and associated structures are about 98 percent complete against 100 percent revised completion schedule. "The contractor was awarded five months extension of time due to rain and additional works of road surfacing."

The overhaul and rehabilitation of all existing traffic lights in town started last month, while the construction of cell two at the landfill is nearing completion. Bagayi said originally, the project was planned to be completed in September this year but the delay was caused by late issuance of mining rights, shortage of cement and quarry stones. He stated that the tender bids for the construction of public pay toilets at the main mall, Pimville, Ikageleng and Western areas are under evaluation. The mayor indicated that the Ministry of Environment Wildlife and Tourism has not released funds for the procurement of the earth moving machinery for the landfill. "Follow up has been made and we are hopeful that the funds will be disbursed shortly."
