Council abattoir is beyond its lifespan

FRANCISTOWN: The Mayor of Francistown, Honest Buti Billy, has told a full council meeting here that the municipal abattoir has exceeded its economic life span.

Billy said records show that a proposal for a new abattoir was long mooted as far back as 2000, but funding had been a problem.

"When a facility operates beyond its economic lifespan, (its) maintenance costs become unsustainable," he said. "This seems to be the case with the municipal abattoir."
