Convicts appeal gets state approval

FRANCISTOWN: The state has given a nod to a convicts appeal to the High Court for his sentences to run concurrently, and not consecutively, as a lower court had ruled.

The High Court also concurred with Justice Phadi Solomon saying she would give reasons why she was in agreement on June 22. Appearing before Justice Solomon at the Francistown High Court on Wednesday, John Gunda appealed that his sentences should run concurrently.

He was tried at the Francistown Magistrate’s Court where he was found guilty on eight counts. He was charged with seven counts of stealing and one of being found in possession of stolen goods.
