Contractors cry foul over unpaid allowance

FRANCISTOWN: Contractors here are crying foul over Francistown City Council's (FCC) alleged failure to pay them a retention allowance for providing maintenance services.

In June last year, FCC awarded 15 small-scale contractors tenders to carry out maintenance work at Our Lady of the Desert Primary School in Francistown. The contractors were given tenders to paint the school's classrooms, toilets, administration block and erect the school fence. The cost of the tenders varied from P10,000 to P15,000.

The maintenance work at the school was supposed to be completed in one month but took more than that due to the council's failure to provide raw materials on time.  This information was revealed to Mmegi by one of the contactors who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation in the future when applying for council tenders.
