Conmen prowling at Rail Park mall

Shoppers eager to discover the pleasures of the new Rail Park Mall, in Gaborone near the Railway Station have been warned to keep an eye out for conmen masquerading as shop managers offering employment to job seekers.

Since the mall opened, the Botswana Police have recorded eight cases of obtaining by falŒse pretences, in which people lost laptops, expensive cell phones and cash to the conmen after declarations and the ultimate surrendering of items as a requirement for fake interviews, a statement from the police said.

The tricksters flee with the job seekers' possessions in the process of the so-called interviews, the statement said. The police therefore warn shoppers to be extra vigilant when shopping at the new mall.
