Following reports that next year the popular race will be moved to a new location, Staff Writer THALEFANG CHARLES joined in the multitudes of spectators that descended on Kumakwane and 17 other spectator points for the final Mantshwabisi showpiece in the area

It is actually two events; the Toyota Kalahari Botswana 1000km Desert Race and Mantshwabisi. Mantshwabisi is for spectators, hawkers, cleaners and bush lovers while the actual race is mostly for foreigners, mostly race club members from South Africa and motorsport enthusiasts who come with their teams to compete and have fun in the desert.

Friday night
On Friday night the social networks are abuzz with Mantshwabisi posts as most people prepared for the race.A drive to Kumakwane at night is smooth but with heavy police presence on the roads. Since there is no public campsite in the area this year, there is not much activity in the small village.
