FRANCISTOWN: Tatitown Customary Court president Ludo Mosojane has said that cohabitation is one of the root causes of gender-based violence in Botswana.

Speaking at a seminar organised by Francistown Institute of Heath Sciences to curb violence against women and children, Mosojane said that women have become more exposed to both physical and emotional violence when they cohabit with men. She stated that young people are cohabiting commonly due to the high cost of living.

She added that rent in towns is skyrocketing and it has forced couples to cohabit in order to cut costs. She said that young people cohabit without their parents' knowledge. She said cohabitation is risky, as the law too does not recognise it.
